Olive you too!

"Do you like my new haircut?"
"Aw, you look like a little olive."
"That's the sweetest thing, ever!"
I am a little olive. Tonight we're going to a label function in San Francisco. BMG is closing their SF branch, so I'm going to the party to say goodbye to some nice people. After that, we'll probably eat somewhere wish we had something else to do, then go home. So far, no one at work has noticed my new olive haircut. Maybe they don't like olives.

Fuzzy Sweater Love.

There is no sweater I love more than a good scratchy cardigan. Four years ago, I had put hobo gloves on all of them. Now, I would never cut them up.
Spent a nice, sweet evening with Leon and his split pea soup. We ate bread with oil and vinegar, checked eachother out, cuddled and fell asleep watching Junkyard Wars.

On tape.

Last night on Panic Attack we had about 6 prank calls by at least two, but possibly three people. I mean, phoning a call-in format radio show and pretending to have a legitimate question just so you can say "poop" and "Milan Jovonovich" on the air is not funny at all. I mean, it's not even clever. If you are going to prank call a radio station, at least say something that everyone can appreciate. We have you on tape.
Hello, you have reached the psychiatric help hotline. If you are obsessive-compulsive, press 1 repeatedly. If you are co-dependant, have someone press 2 for you. If you have multiple personality disorder, press 3, 4, 5 and 6. If you are paranoid-delusional, we know who you are and we know what you want. If you are manic-depressive, it doesn't matter what you push, no one's going to answer anyway.
Magically, I've recovered from yesterday's financial dilemma. By winning first prize in a beauty contest, I am now 90 dollars richer. Hello groceries, hello renewed gym membership. Everytime I think I'm going bust, some money fairy saves me.

Happea and Pea-wee.

It was like the coldest night ever last night, this morning too. Let's see, I can either renew my membership at the gym this week, or I can buy groceries on Thursday. My priorities are seriously askew if this is a big decision for me, but look...I'll rationalize it. Oh, what's the big deal? I can buy groceries on Friday.
Wednesday is a split pea soup day. Time for Leon to make the famous, vegan split pea soup that won my heart. Yes, please blow extra kisses in my bowl.

It's all drooling and crazy people from here on out.

Wednesday night. We tried to watch Dude Where’s My Car with Heathers, Matt and Dan, but we ate too much California Salad and we fell asleep. Both of us, drooling on Heather and Dan’s couch. Heather and Matt had long gone, the movie was over and poor Heather and Dan were just waiting patiently for us to wake up.
Thursday. We had our first full band practice. It went very well if I do say so myself. After that, we got all geared up for fabulous Mexican food at my cousin’s house only to find out that my parents had decided not to go after all. Instead we ate at their house. My sister was there, I had forgotten how much she drives me crazy. At least she’s easier to deal with when she’s sober. Then we had dessert with Leon’s Mom, sister and his mom’s crazy friend who likes to touch foods to receive a message that will make her fingers twitch if the food is bad. We played NFL Monopoly with her until I thought I was going to cry. Leon's mom doesn't buy anything unless it's on sale, which explains the NFL Monopoly. I fell asleep watching the Blues Brothers. The only thing that I liked about that movie was the commercials on the tape from 1987, and maybe the Aretha Franklin cameo.
Friday. We did some running around and visited Maryann for a few minutes. I feel bad that I don’t visit more often. She gets absurdly insecure about her friendships sometimes. I don’t know how to console her and it frustrates me. Friday night was the big vegetarian potluck. There was so much good food, I stuffed myself but I did not have pie once this holiday, thank you. Us girls drank a lot of wine and then I tried to show them how to dance. I don’t think that I was very successful. I ate some California Salad, and then conked out. Leon woke me up, and I was drooling all over my arm.
Saturday. I did some shopping by myself, but instead of buying gifts for other people, I bought myself a new sweater and some hippie shoes. I freaked out on Leon, and then we went to pizza, later Gilhooly’s for cards. They had the Musak soul station on, it was fabulous and I sang along to most of the songs.
Sunday. I hit a car in the parking lot of our apartments. I only made a six-inch scratch on the fiberglass bumper, my car was unscathed. The car I hit was a rental car. I hope they don’t make me pay for anything. In the afternoon, the Heathers and I had a girly scrapbook party. We tried to make hot buttered rum, but it tasted like rubbing alcohol. The boys had a burly video game day. We made them buy us Chinese food to make up for being boys. It was all fun.

Some things that Mouse can do:
Play fetch.
Copy you when you're in the bathroom.
Walk backwards when you put masking tape on her head.
Throw toys in the air and catch them.
Meow if you blow bubbles at her.
Jump really super high.
Wake you up if you try to oversleep in the morning.
Meow at her reflection in the mirror.
Cackle at birds outside.
Play "I'm gonna bite your butt" with Cleo, and win.
Bite really hard despite missing a tooth.
Take medicine without much of a fight whatsoever.
We loves you Mouse.
Wish us luck.

I'm really kicking myself now for not going to see Trembling Blue Stars on Saturday. There was too much confusion on whether I was on the guest list or not, so we just decided on not making the trip down there only to turn around and go home. Instead I went to Heather's for craft fun. She began a crochet project and I made a flax seed sock monkey with lavender in it for my eye balls. we had a good time though, talking and stuff about buying houses, people we know that are having babies. Growing up, finally.
We viewed two apartments this weekend. The best being one on G Street. One bedroom, one bath with hardwood floors, dining room, storage and a nice built-in hutch. We both fell in love with it, and we hope that they pick us. I'm mailing the money orders for the application process off today. Wish us luck.
Friday we saw the Harry Potter movie. I liked it, but some of the reviews were right. The Harry Potter kid was sort of non-reactionary. Oh well. They're just kids after all.

>Things that are good for you.

I have a new found love for asparagus. I think it took me a while to realize that I liked asparagus because it reminded me of when I was little and we were kind of poor. Once, we took a drive down to the river to pick wild asparagus and whatever other edibles we could find in the fields around the river. I remember tromping through the tall grass, inhaling cotton from the cottonwood trees, picking and eating the sweet, baby, crayon sized asparagus. I think my dad also picked some mustard greens (they cook up just like spinach) and that's all I can remember about that. Maybe someone fell in the river, too because I remember laughing. I especially love asparagus tempura, now. If anyone out there wants to take me for appetizers and sushi tonight, you know where to take me.
Sometimes when nutrition bars are fortefied with extra protein, I can really taste it and boy does it taste like burning!
On the other hand some stuff is not good for you. Or good for these 12 people, but the pictures and commentary are pretty interesting.

>Tall buildings that people live in.

Sometimes I become quite infatuated with something that I've heard of, but have never seen so I try to find a picture of it on-line. Last night I had a really happy dream about moving into a new apartment building. It was an old place, with the kind of windows that I like and a clawfoot tub. Anyway, it made me think of how I've never seen a picture of The Dakota in New York. So here's the picture and now I know what it looks like. Believe me, this wasn't nearly as hard as the time that I couldn't find any pictures at all of squid and octopus beaks, or idiot fish.

>7 a.m. Too sleepy.

I'm tired and cranky. All I feel like doing is complaining. The only things that will make me feel better: A nap, some strawberries, two pieces of toast, bad television and a cozy blanket.
So...I gained the three pounds back that I lost only three days ago.
Top three pet peeves about people 11/13/01:
.Farty brit-pop kids who write 'cos instead of because.
.People who act fragile and damaged for attention.
.Guys that say "Schweeeet!" when something pleases them.
Need I go on?
Who needs new shoes? I do.

>Fashion Forward.

Hello, we are robots.

We had a pretty fun weekend. Friday we went to Ben's house warming party. It was better than some of his other parties, which have had weird vibes. This time, there were a different lot of people, less alcohol, and board games. Saturday we did normal day stuff, the gym, a little shopping. Later that evening we went to Heather and Dan's for Heather's birthday dinner and drinks. A bunch of recently transplanted Floridians, and some Bay Area people showed up. We all went ice skating at an outdoor rink near downtown plaza. For some of us, it was our first time. After a very painful trip around the rink in too small skates, I switched to a bigger pair. Apparently this must be the trick to ice skating, because I really felt like Brian Boytano or something. I was doing turns and tricks in no time. It was raining a little and the ice was pretty slushy, which I guessed was not favorable, so I fell once on my knees. After that we went drinking at the Townhouse and did some karaoke. That place is not satisfactory for a karaoke hog like me. You have to wait for everyone to get a turn before you can have a second or a third turn. I mean, I turned in a request at 11:45 pm and still didn't get called when I left at almost 2 AM. Leon was pretty tossed, and he threw up. I got chased by a drag queen, I am imagining that she wanted to dance with me, but I can only guess. I had quite a bit of wine and danced the vogue and the Axl Rose dance. Somehow I drove us the eight blocks home. We woke up Sunday morning feeling like a bunch of champs, which quickly downgraded to a bunch of sick champs. Fortunately it was nothing a little bit of Cornerstone couldn't cure. So we spent much of the day laying down, and eating. Still not completely cured of last night's indulgence, I decided to try the last known hangover cure, Roundtable pizza. It worked like a charm, but it was hell getting the stupid pizza. Some rowdy kid spilled some soda, and the lady bringing our pizza totally slipped, fell and dropped everything. We had to wait forever!
Now, I'm ready to start my work week.

>Rock Total.

Saw Stereo Total last night. I had a good time at a show for once in a long while, and I actually danced a bit of pogo. Momus was in rare form, I must say. Last time I saw him it was in Sacramento and he was good, but I wasn't that impressed. Maybe this being San Francisco, he pulled out all the stops. Prancing about like a cat, miming a Japanese girl on holiday in Rome, he was all over. I'm pretty sad that we aren't going again tonight. We saw TC last night, briefly. I was about to start talking to him, but suddenly a gaggle of girls errupted into the white girl dance, right on top of me. I fought my way out tooth and nail, only to find out that TC was just all, "oh, see you guys later." Oh well, we will see him around sometime.
I went to see my mom this morning. She was still in the hospital. My poor mom, she's been through so much. She doesn't deserve to have creepy diseases like metastic cancer, and avascular nucleroisis. She's going home today, and I'll go see her this weekend.
I was thinking about someone that I used to go out with. We lived together for a while, and shared everything. Clothes, hair products, clothes, chores, dogs, Cleo and meals. We ate vegetarian meals, because as I always thought, we were both vegetarians. I came to find out, after we broke up that she wasn't a vegetarian at all! Imagine that. I'm sorry, but this bothered me way more than the time that she claimed to be the gayest person she knew, then went and turned un-gay. She also said that she wanted to be the boss of everything. To be the boss of everything is a lofty goal.
Me, I just want to be the boss of a few things. They are:
1. The boss of Leon not interrupting me when I speak.
2. The boss of traffic (this includes parking).
3. The boss of the radios in my house on the weekends.
4. The boss of who deserves to have animals as pets.
5. The boss of no smoking anywhere.
That's not too much.

:Kissing in the hallway.
:Telling me "poor baby" when I need it.
:You're so creamy.
:Cooking dinner for me.
:Touching my face.
:Fall asleep on the couch.
:Your big arms.
:Kissing in the morning.

I love you pepper,
Tiny.

>The ultimate kitchen fan battle, Autumn 2001!

I think our upstairs neighbor is having a battle with us. See, she likes to smoke cigarettes right under her range top exhaust fan, while it's on. I guess that she's thinking that her graceful, blue plumes of smoke just float right up like a cloud of nicotine fairies, through the exhaust passage and escapes into the sky. This is so not the case! In fact, the smoke instead gets pushed down into my apartment! It stinks up my whole house and gives me a headache. I've bought air fresheners, lit candles, lit inscence! Nothing works. Our house still smells like ghetto house. The only way I can sort of prevent it is to turn on our ktichen fan every time she turns on hers. Last night was a super battle of near collosal proportions. She turned hers on, I turned mine on, she turned hers off, I turned mine off. Mere minutes later, she turns hers on again, so I turn mine on, too. Off, on, off, on, off, on! It went on for quite sometime.
There's just too much for me to do today. I am supposed to go see my sister from 5-7:30, Leon wants to have band practice at 6:30, Heather wanted to go to the gym for an ab workout and I still have to do laundry. Everyone wants a piece of me these days.
Let's all hope that my rent check didn't bounce.

>I don't want to be here today.

Because I'd rather be home in bed, sleeping, or having hot tea or something. I hadn't had caffine in a couple of days, so last night I had about half a Pepsi. It must have been the caffine, or maybe it was all the sugar, but suddenly I was cooking dinner, then quite abruptly I declared: "Let's clean out our closet, it's making me crazy!" We must have gotten rid of like 6 boxes of terrible clothes, clothes that we had gotten too fat for, and some ratty shoes. After we packed up all the boxes, we had Talulah Gosh practice for a while. I don't think it will be as hard as I thought. I almost have "I Can't Get No Satisfaction (Thank God)" all the way, on my first try even. So then we dropped off the boxes at Purple Heart, and almost went to the gym, too. I guess I was pretty wired. Thank goodness we have a clean closet now. Next project: The magazine mess.
Now presenting, my Target wish list. Just in time for the Winter Holidays.

>So where were the spiders?

We luhs you Vlade!

Last night's game was all about Vlade. He was absolutely on fire. Leon feels good about the Kings this season. So do I. We're going to the Houston game on 11/19, I hope. Leon keeps bragging about my being able to get tickets in the company box, so everyone is all up on my jock.
"Dude, can you get me tickets?"
"No, dude. Now get off because you're all up in my area."
Let's see, what happened this weekend? Friday we did something, I'm sure of it. Oh yes, we played Apples to Apples with some people. That was fun. On Saturday, I went to the eye doctor and they were all, "You're so pleasant to work with, we love you, you have such a positive attitude, you're so easy going, we wish all patients could be like you!" I think they were all up in my area because they felt bad about raising their prices. I mean, I looked pretty shocked when they told me how much the eye exam was now. I guess my eyes have gotten pretty bad since my last visit. For whatever it means, my right eye is 4.00 and my left eye is like 3.25, and I guess that's a lot worse than the old prescription. Before you know it, I'll be blind.
I also went to see a house on 21st & N Street, down the road from the Hull Harem and around the corner from Zelda's. It was okay. The bedroom was super tiny, but the rest of the house was okay. It had a couple of built-ins that were charming, but I love those anyway. Saturday night we went to see From Hell which was so boring, that I fell asleep several times.
Sunday I went to see another apartment. The guy who showed it had stood me up on Friday, so he promised to be there on Sunday. He was, and I looked at it, let him know that I was interested but would like Leon to see it and the guy told me that he'd be home all day if I wanted to see it again. So I called him when Leon got back and the guy was all, "Oh, I have too many people to pick from already, I'll just choose from them, sorry!" Well, thanks for wasting my time, twice. I don't think I make a good impression on landlords because I look so young, and maybe because I have a tattoo. From now on, Leon should go alone.
Tonight I'm going to cook cowboy hot pot.

>Mass, ya tuthless pof.

Last night Amy came over to do Talulah Gosh practice. I'm supposed to be in a cover band I guess, but we're only playing once for the blated halloween / xmas show at the loft. I don't really want to do it that much, but they really want me to participate, so I guess I'll do it. Here's why I'm not thrilled about it:
1. I'm shy sometimes.
2. It's incredibly difficult for me to sing and play at the same time.
3. I don't know Talulah Gosh songs that well.
So we have to pick out three or four songs and practice them like crazy. I'll try to look for guitar tab today, and some inspiring photos so that I can at least try to dress like them. I pulled out The Decline and Fall of Heavenly LP to see if there were any big Amelia or Matthew phots where I could see what they were wearing and I found a really old K catalog of mine. It was the old newspaper style catalog, with the Pastels on the cover. I remember being so excited about music back then, I would try anything on K, Sub Pop, KRS....now, I'm too impatient and jaded.

>Congratulations to the Student of the Month.

Sometimes there's nothing I want more than all new house stuff. Then I remember that it's much more important to pay bills, feed myself and get warmer winter clothes. All our stuff is so ghetto it's embarrasing to have people over. I also wish that I wasn't the only one who did chores throughout the week and not only half of them on Sunday nights.
Last night we took Aniecia and her friend trick-or-treating. "When I get home I'm gonna rot my teeth out!" Kids can be pretty funny.
