Something boring.

I've been in and out of some rather boring meetings these last two days and I've got another day ahead of me. Well, at least they're product presentations and not too business-y.

I've been very unimpressed with the free food. Wait, I know. It's FREE, so what? I know, I won't even go there. So never mind. The drinks were great (sparkling water!) and I got free CDs.

I am so POSITIVE!

And cheery.

Let It Be, or not.

I've been thinking about this news where I read that Paul McCartney is going to rerelease Let It Be sans the Phil Spectoring. And I got to thinking that I would just love to do that to parts of my life.

"Teeni's Childhoood"
Now without all those meddling alcoholics.

"Teeni's Mom"
Now without that pesky cancer drama.

"Teeni's Ex-Boyfriends"
Permanently deleted from the archives by a nasty fire.

"Teeni's Personal Relationships"
Now without all those retards.

Brought to you by, the person I could have been but am not for obvious reasons.

I know I said I wouldn't call anymore.

Yesterday I talked to Jeff at my old store. He's the epitome of the happy-go-lucky guy. He instinctively sees the humor in everyday life and has an infectious way of sharing it. He sent a letter to me at my office. From Neil Diamond. He knows how much I hate Neil Diamond. We talked about all the old crazies that would come in to the store and what they're up to now. We promised to get together soon and catch up.

Good movies. I saw some great movies in the past two weeks or so.

American Splendor - Made me want to live in a tiny apartment for the rest of my life.
Dirty Pretty Things - Made me want to run around London like a fugitive.
Lost in Translation - Made me want to hang around in a Tokyo hotel room in my panties, feeling terribly lonely.

Today I'm going for this look: It's the hues that match.

Jana wrote something on her blog today that I really liked. I tried to comment, but her comments are busted. Sigh.

Weather theory

I have a theory that people most enjoy the weather of the month that they were born in. I love colder weather. Is that because I was born in February? I can't wait until it's cold out. Can't, can't, can't, can't wait. The first day of Autumn is tomorrow. I doubt there'll be much relief, but their never is until mid-October.

But doesn't it still sound miserable to say that today is September 22nd and it will be 100 degrees in Sacramento?

It should.

Reno, Dakota I'm reaching my quota

Going to Reno tonight! I've never been before, despite being a native Sacramentan. For some reason, at least two people were really suprized that I had never been there. I didn't think it was too weird. So, anyway gambling and good times ahead. But not too much gambling. I hate to waste money that I should be saving. I heard about a new creperie today and I think I'm going to go try it out for lunch.

Today, the look I'm going for is "casual Friday" with an up-do. Really, I've got to get my hair cut one last time before the wedding. I just don't know what to do with it when it's this long besides putting it up.

From last night's Spanish class:

Teacher (demonstrating how to use the stem changing verb repetir in the present): "Okay, clase. Qué repites en una cita?"
Me: "Repito: no me toques."

Stick that in your translator. It comes out totally wrong.

(The real translation: What do you repeat on a date? I repeat: Don't touch me.)

Zzzz.

I'm so tired. The last two nights I spent out at clubs. Tuesday was my quarterly appearance at Lipstick. I drank, danced, talked some boo-boo. Went to bed at around half past two and was up and at work by 8:15 the next morning. Last night I drove all the way out to SF to hear some sad bastard music. Never again. Never will I ever travel 90 miles out to see two crappy bands open for one great band in the middle of the week, when the good band goes on at 11:45 PM. And for reasons unknown, an integral portion of eastbound I-80 was closed! A detour took us through Oakland and up the forever stretch of 680. It took two very very long hours to get home. I finally collapsed into bed at around 3 AM and woke up at 7:30 this morning. My eyes are bloodshot, my hair smells like smoke and I feel like I'm going to have a narcoleptic attack at any moment. Ah, but I'm still young and resillient, right?

Today, the look I'm going for is "French Prisoner" with an up-do.

Foods I'm determined to enjoy because life would be so much easier:

The making progress list
1. Onions.
2. Avocado / guacamole
3. Tahini sauce

The still not there yet list
1. Sour cream. Do I even want to like this? I think I'm happy without it.
2. Cream sauces. Yeah, I'm not ever going to like these.
3. Blue cheese dressing. I like blue cheese, but the dressing looks so creamy and gross!
4. Cream cheese. Why is it so good as a dessert but so gross on a bagel?

I'm coming home.

I just read this amazing story about Dani's grandmother. Photographer, warrior, storyteller and pure guts. Viewing her photographs, something sparked in me. Inspiration and longing for my old tank Minolta SR-T 101. I need to photograph again. I'm going home to mom's today to pick up my Holga. It's time I gave my grandchildren a piece of my present and their future history.

Irrational medical fears.

Remember that time I saw a Discovery Channel show about killer parasites? And I got freaked out that I had some sort of wormy parasites making home in my brain or wormy worms crawling across my eyeballs?
Well, I am having another freak out. MUCOID PLAQUE! I'm convinced that I'm full of it. Mucoid, that is. Yuck!

Cooking For The Picky Vegetarian

I think that would be the name of my very own cooking show if I had one on the Food Network. If I were a food critic I would call my column something similar. Lately, my organic vegetable subscription service has been box after box of delicious summer vegetables and fuits. Squash, heirloom tomatoes, basil, garlic, peaches, melons, plums. Okay, let's see. I've made soup, simple pasta sauces and sauteed veggies. What else to do? I've gotten so lazy that each new delivery becomes instant pizza toppings. Oh, more squash? Put It In The Pizza! Tomatoes? Duh, put it in the pizza. I guess I could be doing more with these veggies; they deserve more! But you know what? I love me some pizza.

And tomatoes caprese, the easiest recipe on this entire blog.

Slice up a bunch of fresh tomatoes, preferebly interesting heirlooms. You might want to seed them too.
Get a tub of fresh mozzarella. The kind packed in water.
Oh yeah and some basil.
Put the sliced tomatoes in a bowl or on a plate, spread evenly. Slice the mozzarella and put that in/on there too. You maybe want 70% tomatoes and 30% cheese. The star of the dish should be the tomatoes, that's why using heirlooms would be ideal.
Wash and pat dry your basil. Seperate into leaves and make a stack about yay big. Then roll up the stack like a ciggy and make little slices. Oh damn, you just made chiffonades of basil.
Sprinkle the basil on top of the tomatoes and mozzarella.
Drizzle with good olive oil, like Bariani's and good balsamic vinegar, like Cavalli's balsamic seasoning.
Finish with a tiny sprig of basil as a garnish. Like the Fab 5 says: If it's not garnished, it's not finished.
Yeah, that looks pretty good. Okay, eat.

Sigh.

I am so .....sigh.....

My throat hurts and I wonder if it's because I'm holding back a scream.

Agenda.

We've gotten so much done for our wedding now. Just a few things left. We have 8 months left and have already accomplished:
Reserved our reception/ceremony site.
Got my dress.
Picked out an officient.
Selected our attendants.
Have the food business worked out.
Booked our wedding night suite and our honeymoon hotel.

So we are rewarding ourselves. Taking a trip to Reno next weekend for fun and forgetting.

Buckle up we're wayward bound.

This may very well be the last day of the summer heat. Farewell sweaty brows, flip flops, light beers and evening neighborhood walks in cut offs and tee shirts.

In fact.

GOOD RIDDENCE!

I've always been a jeans and sweater girl, myself. Full coverage shoes, scarfs and all that. That's me.
