I've been saved.
It took many years, but I've learned to love coffee. Sitting here at my desk on a cold rainy day, listening to Jens Lekman, after fueling on a steamy hot cup of coffee (no sugar, no cream), I am unstoppable. This is magic liquid.

So tiny.
I love this dog about 700 x more than I could have even imagined. I can't get over how expressive her little face is, the way she looks when she chews her food, or how incredibly tiny she is. She's a perfect bundle of puppy. I only wish I could bring her to work with me.
Last night I had an anxiety dream that she was sleeping in the bed with us and we rolled over on her. I woke up asking Leon where the dog was. He always insists on reasoning with me when I'm sleep-talking. The time it takes me to articulate what I'm trying to say, my frustration grows so much that I wake up completely annoyed.
Me: Where's the dog?
Leon: Where do you think she is?
Me: I don't know, in the cage? I mean the cage...uh....crate?! Never mind.

That dog.
I'll try not to be that person who is always talking about her dog, so let's keep this brief.
CUTEST PUPPY EVER!!! Seriously, I am not sure how this happened, but she's about 100 x more precious that I expected. Clicky for dogster profile.
She did her best to keep us up last night and so I feel pretty out of it today. She's like a little wind up toy with the prancing and the playful yaps, but mostly she likes to sleep and make cozy on your lap while burrowing her head into the crook of your elbow.
I was looking forward to the party on Saturday, but when I got there, I just wasn't feeling social. I felt really shy and overwhelmed for some reason. So I had a beer and left. Perfectly wasted party opportunity.
Sigh.

Won't you take me to...PUPPY TOWN?!
Go see my new baby, Heylove. We're getting her on Saturday.
To all of my imaginary dogs:
Ketzl - the italian greyhound and Barkemedes - the whippet,
Sorry guys...I decided to get a real puppy.

Beet Box
This just in. I LOVE ROASTED BEETS. So much, that I'm making this as part of dinner tomorrow. Writing it here so I don't loose it.
Preheat Oven to 400
Wash unpeeled beats, trim stems down to about 1" long
Drizzle with about 1 - 1.5 TBSP of olive oil in a shallow cake pan, toss to coat
Bake for about 1 hour 10 minutes
Immerse beets in cold water with ice to stop cooking and cool to peel. Peel and slice cooled beets into bite size wedges, arrange on a plate. Drizzle more olive oil, a little Cavalli balsamic seasoning, fresh cracked pepper and fresh ground sea salt. Crumble some goat cheese on there and yum.

PUPPY CITY!!
5 more days untill we get our puppy. Yeah, I'm stoked. Man, dogs need a lot of stuff. Beds, crates, balls, weird liver treats, chewy things, gates.
This weekend Leon was out getting chased by birds in London, but he's back and now it's time for the weekend stats.
Meals eaten out: 1
Times almost went out for cherry pie: 1
Retail therapy shopping sprees: 1
Times almost called 911: 1
Times hung out with friends: 3
Nights I lit the hanukkah thing: 4
Puppy training books read: 1.5

In an alternate universe, part 1.
In alternate universe, I am a respected food critic. In reality, I am a picky vegetarian whose occasional weaknesses bring me to snack on savory, olive oil-dressed tuna salad or crispy bacon, and can't give a fair review of any restaurant except maybe the Sunflower Drive-In in Fair Oaks, where there isn't any meat on the menu.
Cluck, cluck.
