Last night I dreamed about...

Last night I had the most peculiar dream. I dreamed that I was a magical baby. Somehow Darth Vader had taken control of Yoda and used his powers to help him find me, the magical baby in the forest. Then, they were to bring me to the Death Star so that they could use my powers for the dark side. As we trekked through the forest, I feared for my life and wished that Yoda would snap out of it and save me.
This dream is open for analysis.

Normal again.

My sister is doing much better these days. But I bet if you met her, you still wouldn't know we were related. Yesterday was her 9 month anniversary of being sober and I'm so proud of her. She's got a place of her own, and recently was on the news about it. Apparently her landlord is a creep.

Ortiz pays $550 ...She says Claiborne never made sexual advances toward her, but her new neighbor says she was warned by a tenant moving out.
Watch out landlord guy. My sister will knock your block off if you get too funny on her.

Now, because I'm feeling lazy, some lists:

Top worst breakfast today: Quesadilla.
Top "I made this salad": Chinese chickenless salad.
Top frozen pizza: The kind with sauce in the crust.
Top "I saved the game" shooter: M.Bibby.
Top CDs: Mosquitoes, Shop Assistants, Black Tambourine.
Top free lunch today: With the LA Times.
Top friends that I don't see as much as I should: Ben, Shaun, Becky, TC.
Top girls names that aren't Becky: Un-Becky and Non-Becky.

Anyone can tell you how their weekend was.

I'm sorry, my last post was so boring. Anyone can tell you how their weekend was. Do you think if I let my eyebrows go until halloween, that they can look as lush and unanimous as Freda's?
Today at lunch I ate mostly by myself in the kitchen. The only thing available for me to read was a current copy of Readers Digest. I laughed out loud at all the little antecdotes. That's what kind of state I'm in: so brain dead that soccer mom humor is hilarious lunch time reading. Oh, and always remember the difference between antecdotes and antedotes. Because when you're dying of a poisonous snake bite, the last thing you want is a funny little quip from the "All In A Day's Work" section in Readers Digest.

This weekend was busy, fun and a tiny bit exciting. Okay, my new favorite restaurant is Michaelangelo's and baked goat cheese salad is the salad of the millenium. Last night I tried to eat a salad at Jack's, but I could only think of Michaelangelo's bakey goat cheese. All other salads just cower in comparison. So, on Friday we ate there and Kelley had the free wine flowing all night. Needless to say, we had a hard time leaving. We walked over to Townhouse anyway, but we could have totally went without it and probably should have.

On Saturday, I did my secret shop at Ross. It was a little more labor intensive than I thought it would be and I'm not sure if I'd do it again. I was supposed to buy two things, then return them both. The problem was, once I started browsing, I found so many things that I liked and didn't want to return. It was a shopping dillema of near massive proportions. I ended up doing the shop just as I was supposed to, but I couldn't help but feel defeated by this clearance retailer. Ross, you may have won this time but next time I'm going to buy all of the smoked, blue glass plates for $1.50 each, those camel colored Chinese Laundry shoes, that little red Kenneth Cole bag and you can do nothing about it. After that I spent 30 bucks on cat stuff to show off my consumer confidence. Around half past three, we met with Dan and later, Heather at the Streets of London for game watching. Lost to LA again. Around 8 we left for karaoke in Japantown. It was pretty fun, Amy came in after her shift at work and sang a little with us. She and Leon snuck out to find tiny bottles of wine and foaties. The tiny wines they brought back were the same size and shape of the small Kikkoman's bottle. I felt like I was drinking a tiny bottle of soy sauce, not wine. We were tired, so Amy let us sleep at her new digs in Bayview. It's the most awesome house ever. It's got gorgeous molding, huge rooms two stair cases, a huge garage, and easy roof access through the bathroom window. From up there you could see the bay and candlestick point.
Early Sunday morning we fell asleep on the teddy bear couch, sleep ing head to foot. I woke up a little hung over, craving tofu scramble. Luckily, we were able to nurse me back to health at Boogaloo's. It was the best tofu scramble I had ever eaten in my life. We had the longest, rainy drive back to Sacramento. We got home around three and I napped until practice. Our show is on Tuesday with Aden, the Bright Ideas and Currituck County. I still don't know what time.

Hello,

I just want Genisoy to know that I am in love with the bbq flavored soy crisps. Why do these taste so good?!!
Sincerely,

Niki Ortiz

I'm such a dork.
So unmotivated.

I know what I've got to do. This is the time to do it, too. I need to go back to school this fall and finally finish. It's difficult though, there's so much I'm going to have to give up.
Steady, full time paycheck.
Kings tickets.
Free concerts.
Free CDs.
Free lunches and dinners.
Some of the people, but not all of them.
Would it be worth it? I'm sure it would be, once I have some kind of degree. I've resolved that today I have to call the school and make an appointment with a counselor, so I can talk this over. It's so difficult.

Oh, boys.

The only sports I watch on TV are Kings games, so I've been following their playoff games pretty closely. Tonight they're going to smear Dallas and take series two.

Friday. We went out for karaoke at the Townhouse with a few people, mostly boys. I drank a little too much and had fun. Leon and I did a fine version of our bangin' new joint: Nuthin' but a G Thang. We totally ruled. Stella was there too, but we stole the show.
Saturday. Watched a very tense game 4 and then hit the Whole Earth Festival for some kind veggie corndogs. I was so full of deep-fried food that I just came home tried to take a long nap. But our phone was blowing up and I talked to so many people that I couldn't remember who wanted to hang out where so I just watched bad Fox programming and then went to Dan & Heather's for dice. That's my new favorite game.

Sunday. I visited and dined with some mothers. Then Leon and I watched Mulholland Drive for the first time. WTF?! We tried to figure it out, and I think we understood only a very small part of it.
Leon: What. Was. That. Movie. About?
Niki: I don't think we're smart enough to understand it.
Leon: What?!
Niki: I don't think we are perceptive enough to figure the mystery out!
Leon: Who do you know that would understand this?
Somebody did.
And now I get it!

Maude, not Mod.

So my horiscope totally didn't come true yesterday. I didn't get any money or action.

I've been trying to make my hair into a cute mod style. Though, the best I think I can do is a nice Maude style. There's a big difference, really. Actually, I'm much closer to reviving my mother's brown helmet from 1963. I was a Maude before you was a Maude.

Baby it's in the stars.

My horoscope is rad today! It basically says I'm getting money and action!

C-o-m-p-t-o-n and the city they call Long Beach.

I got sick once we landed in LA. Quiz. It was because of:

A. Not having eaten since lunch.
B. The beer I had at SMF while waiting 2 hours for our plane.
C. The cold medicine that I took before I had the beer.
D. All the sugar free gum I chewed to keep my ears from popping in the plane.
E. The scary, turbulent plane landing in LA.
F. The zippy rental car.
G. All of the above.

The answer is G. All of the above. Once we got into Compton, I couldn't keep it down any longer and finally had to puke. There was no exit to pull off of right away, so I just threw up out of the car window, which was not very effective. The puke just flew back in the car. It got on my face, on my sweater, on the upholstry, in my hair, and the outside of the back window looked like an abstract painting. Leon finally found an exit, and we pulled off where I finished it off in a garbage can. The worst part was not having anything to clean myself off with. So I had to stick out the hour drive to get to a safer neighborhood with a 24 hour supermarket. Throwing up in a trash can in Compton. Saying I did that makes my life seem so much more exciting. Blech! I wouldn't do it again though.

The whole trip was fine except for the getting sick part. After seeing some of Leon's family again, I felt more confident that they liked me. That really put me at ease because I had been nervous about it. We stayed with his cousins in their giant house in Yorba Linda. It was huge. They were just about the nicest people ever. The house had softened water, which was kind of weird. The water made it so we couldn't get the soap rinsed off of ourselves, so I was all, "What the shit?!" and they were all "Softened water, yo."

We got to see Mariah graduate, which was cool because hey, you get to see Mariah graduate. But the ceremony was long, religious and very sunny. We all got sunburns.

Later that evening we went to see Mike and Joe in Long Beach. We visited, ate dinner, caught up and went record store shopping at Fingerprints. I found a bunch of mid-eighties english rock. Orange Juice and Shop Assistants were the best things that I found. Then we drove by the coolest apartment buildings ever. It was a huge castle-like place called the Gaytonia.

I guess it's primarily gay residency. The best part was the huge blue neon sign on the roof that read: Gaytonia. There just aren't enough beacons of gayness in the world.

We came home on Sunday dead tired and beat up. Heather's mom was in town and wanted to go out for Cinco de Mayo. We said we'd go with them eariler in the week so we all went and drank margaritas and ate too much food. We had fun. Now I'm at work, but life is more important.

Sacramento, Los Angeles.

Tonight we are leaving for Southern California. As much as I don't like to fly I was in the air again. Leon's sister is graduating and we're going to attend her ceremony. I'm nervous about seeing his family again, but I always am. I just wonder what they think of me.

We're flying into LAX, which I've never done before. Last time we flew into John Wayne, which is in Orange County. At the risk of sounding like an out-of-state tourist, maybe I'll see movie stars this time! It should be fun, I love flying. Plus, there is a slight chance we might get to see Michael and Joe, our favorite ex-roommates in the history of roommates. Best roommates ever.

I've been pretty stressed about work lately. So much, that I worry about it at home. I've been listening to people tell me their philosophies on work/life. That life is more important than work. That you should work hard and look at everything else in life as a reward. I've been trying to see things this way, so far it's slow going.
