Positive Mojo.

Dear Apartment Getting Gods,
Please shine your apartment getting powers on Leon Levy and Niki Ortiz. They're good kids and really deserve that place at 2210 I street.
Signed,
A Concerned Party
Friday. We saw the best apartment ever. It was an old building, where you have to dial someone up to get in the door. Hardwood floors, built-ins, gas stove, third floor and cats allowed! Wish us luck. Saturday morning I was up at 6 because I couldn't stop thinking about the apartment. Now I've resigned myself to thinking that we won't get it, that way if we do I'll be pleasantly overjoyed. We find out on Thursday.
Saturday. Leon baked cookies all morning. Then we lounged on the couch watching Funny Face and eating curry. I studied all of Audrey Hepburn's outfits, wondering if I could pull off her tweed, bookish style. We decided to go see LOTR in Natomas. Killing time at Walmart, I picked up two neck kerchiefs to try my hand at the Audrey goes to Paris in a camel colored, a-line coat look. Bonjour Pareeeee! LOTR was good, green and mossy with wizards and mystical fog. I fell asleep during a couple of the battle sceens, but the movie was three hours long.
Sunday. Leon made sugar mess all over the kitchen and turned out my favorite cookies, russian tea cakes. Then we went to the Kings game, where Ronald McDonald gave me a comb. The Kings creamed Phoenix by like 32 points or something. It was fabulous.
See you on 1/02, after the holiday and our fun road trip to Southern CA. We're getting a digital camera!!

Loo loo loo, loo loo loo loo looooooo.
Holiday shopping is finished, finally. Today is the last full day of work before the holidays. I have to work a half day on xmas eve, but that's not bad. Today also happens to be our office pot luck. This time, there is supposed to be plenty for me to eat. Heather was telling us about her office pot luck and how everyone there loves meat. She rattled off the items on the sign up sheet:
"Turkey, Chicken, pork fried rice, green beans with bacon! Someone was even so vague to just write down 'meat'!"
Someone at work has left me a hello kitty figurine in my stocking. No one is fessing up, so clearly someone is totally enamoured with me.
Fah who for-aze! Dah who dor-aze! Welcome Christmas, come this way!

These things happen to other people.

Leon: "So, you know how we were going to go to New York this spring?"
Me: "Uh, yeah."
Leon: "Well I was just thinking, New York is all smashed up right now. Maybe we should go somewhere else."
Me: "Like where?"
Leon: "Somewhere far away."
Me: "Like Italy!?"
Leon: "Yeah, or London!"

So we're going somewhere, sometime between May and July but we don't know where yet. If you have any suggestions please let us know.

Fat wads of cash.

I keep having anxiety dreams about the station. It's wrecking me! Because of this, I'm sleeping much lighter, and I wake up exhausted. I also had a dream about going back to college for remedial english classes and something about a bear chasing me.

I touched her thumb and she knew it was me.

I'm exhausted. Either that or I'm getting carbon monoxide poisioning from the heater in my car, because I nearly fell asleep on the 10 minute drive here.

We make a pretty sky everyday.

Blogger just crapped out, and I lost my whole, big post. I'm feeling too lazy to try and remember what it was that I wrote.
Friday. I went with co-workers to see Vanilla Sky. It was better than I thought it would be, even if Tom Cruise was in it. Tom Cruise, Penelope Cruz, Tomelope Crooz. Some bros and I went out for karaoke, but it was terrible because they never draw our names to sing as often as they do the "serious" singers. We tried to play drinking dreidel, but everyone was too distracted to finish it. It was my worst singing night ever, and I was the saddest girl to ever hold a microphone.
Saturday. We went to SF to exchange music with Amy. She and Leon are going to write music to eachother's songs. I'm going to sit on the couch and read an article about Chelsea Clinton. We went shopping at Amoeba before Amy went to work. Her burning Man roommates were having a party that night and she asked us to stick around. We decided to kill some time until then, so we had dinner and walked to Japantown. Leon convinced me to see Monsters Inc. so we walked around the mall until the movie started. We spent a lot of time in the stationary store and bookstore. Leon got a bunch of Afro Ken stuff and I got a new women's Non-No and Cutie. We should have gone home after the movie, because we were tired. Instead, we took busses back to Amy's and waited for her to get home before we left. I slept all the way home.
Sunday. I had a nightmare about a sturgeon. We stayed in bed all morning laughing and practicing "Nuthin' But A G Thang". I visited with my sister a little bit and finished my holiday shopping. I was wrapping presents when there was a knock at the door. Usually I check the peep hole before I open the door, but I didn't this time. I opened the door and this stringy haired lady was standing on our doormat. I said:
"Hi."
She looked me up and down, and didn't say anything. So I got scared, closed the door and locked all three locks.
We ended up at Heather and Dan's for holiday Simpsons and hot buttered rumba, then came home. We tried to watch TV but nothing was on. The Man Show was on, which is funny when it's not chauvinistic.
Neither of us took the lasagna I made last night for lunch. It was gross.

Forget to forget.

Three cheers for elephants, mamoths, and snuffies. I have a new found appreciation for pachyderms after watching that show on the Discovery channel. Plus, cartoon elephants are just about my favorite thing right now. Hopefully this won't bring me bad elephant luck. There was one time where I really thought I was the biggest pigeon cheerleader. I was thinking that pigeons were smarter than people gave them credit for, that they had complex directional senses, and had helped out in the war. Pigeon power! What do you know, one of those damn things went and pooped on my brand new bag. Now, the last thing that I need is big elephant poop.

Creamy Middles.

Some people that I still have to shop for:
:My neice
:My Mom
:Mair
:Leon's Mom
:Mariah
I'm nearly done, but it doesn't feel like it. Leon and I have been exchanging Hanukah gifts since Sunday night. It's like getting pre-xmas stocking stuffers everyday. Saturday or sometime thereabouts Leon said he would make latkes for us.
Last night he made me say the special cat call into the sk-1. It drove Cleo crazy, she thought she was getting a can of wet food. I tried to make Leon just give her a can. He said:
"You can't give the cats their X-M-A-S F-O-O-D!"
Like cat's can spell.

Tiny Dancer.

Friday. Leon took his mom and me out to dinner for her birthday. We had to leave the restaurant when she began waving her arms and dancing in her chair. We got some dessert afterwards, then hurried home for band practice. Amy came over and played us a couple of her songs, which were awesome. Her songs would be played by the kind of band I would want to be in. My inital anxiety about this band thing is casually melting into excitement. After that we all headed over to Matt's house for Casiotone for the Painfully Alone, Cuspador and Danny Offer. I had a couple of beers and started heckling Danny, but Leon got really annoyed with me and so I had to stop. We moved the party over to the Flame Club where I watched shuffleboard, drank waters, and planned a new business strategy for Ass Wallets with James and a very helpful Lucas Cuspador. I won't tell you what our new plan is, but I will hint that it will be all about mini-max and cultural currency. I gave Leon my special cub scouts pin as a sweet gesture, but he didn't think it was that special on the account that I forgot where I got it from. I said that Chrisser gave it to me, but I honestly don't remember. I don't think that should make it any less special.
Saturday. I tried to knock some holiday shopping out of the way, but I didn't have much luck which made me feel defeated. Later on that night we ran between two shows. First we saw Trace, who never play. Then we headed over to Espresso Metro for Tangles, Gusto, and the Ski Instrustors. We tried to get T.C. to come with us but we lost him. Denise tried to make me entertain some girl visiting from NY, but I just didn't have it in me. I bothered Alan until he bought me a glass of wine just to shut me up.
Sunday. I ran into Other Heather at the gym.
"You're so fashionable. I have a wedding to go to, do you know where I can get a good dress?"
"Fashionable? Me? Do you ever see me wearing dresses?"
Bonnie, Real Heather and I did some more holiday shopping. I got some things for some people. We went back to Bonnie's and found all of our boyfriends playing hooky from the chores we asked them to do, mesmerized by X-Box. Leon and I went looking for a good menorah, but settled for pizza. Since we don't know of any jewish shops, we were at the mercy of card shops and deparment stores, so everything was either too gawdy, or too expensive. We didn't get one, so we'll end up borrowing one from Leon's mom. We ended up at Heather's and Matt's for Simpsons, drinks and games. We played a couple of rounds of a board game. I drank a lot of wine and became very chatty. I'm supposed to email Other Heather something, but I forgot what it was.
We went home and fell asleep watching part of the prehistoric beast show I had been wanting to watch. This morning I woke up wearing three pairs of panties: the light blue ones I went to bed in, a navy job that I had put on backwards and a black pair. I decided to wear the black pair today because I'm running out of clean panties and these ones were the safest since there were at least two layers between us last night. I must have been sleep walking, but I don't remember a thing.

In the bookstore, in the laundrymat.

"Would you get mad at me if I told you not to forget to put potatoes in the soup?"
"Yes."
You can't tell Leon what to do when he's cooking. Even if you know he's going to forget something, or if you know he's doing something wrong, you just can't tell him without him getting angry. His excuse is that everything he cooks turns out okay no matter what. My excuse is that one day it won't and if I don't say anything he'll ask me, "Why didn't you say anything?!" and I'll say, "You'd get mad!" and then he would go on about how he wouldn't have gotten mad, but I know that he would have. Because I know how he works.
Amy wants all of us to play music again, with our own songs. It sounds fun and I'll do it, but I'm afraid. What if the only thing we can play well are Talulah Gosh covers? I can't even think about it. It makes me too anxious.
We're taking Leon's mom out for dinner tonight because her birthday is on Sunday. I can never tell if she is especially fond of me, but Leon tells me that she says nice things about me when I'm not around. Once she gave me a card for my birthday with a nice handwritten note about how important I am to Leon and how kind and supportive I have been to him. It was very sweet of her, but also kind of funny. It was as if she were making up for her son. Ah, well. What does it matter?

I was happy in the haze of a drunken hour.

More Photos

Here's a link to more photos from the Talulah Gosh show I was in last Sunday. Amy also took some photos. I'll post those when I can find a reliable, free site to host them. Why do I look like I'm sleeping in all of these pictures? I assure you, I was awake for the whole thing.
I'm going to see an apartment after work today. It's on 25th and N streets, I drove by yesterday on my way home. It looks okay. The lady seemed nice. Wish me luck, because I hope she doesn't think I look like a teenager and then decides not to rent to me.

Three.

I have three cavities. Why do I have such an expensive mouth?
In other news, I think I killed the KDVS crank caller. I began asking callers that I did not already recognize for their phone numbers so that I could call them and then put them on the air. The very second call we got must have been him. He goes by John, or Johnny, and he gave me a fake number. He didn't try calling back.

Did you know I'm a pessimist?

Have you ever wanted to die? I almost wanted to die of nervousness last night. We had our one and final Talulah Gosh show yesterday, at the eighth annual Loft (belated) Halloween show. It came off very well, even though I messed up once, I don't think anyone could really tell though. That's not too bad considering that I didn't practice nearly as diligently as I should have. Oh, let's see...we had about two whole practices together a band. Leon and I had one or two together, so in all I practiced about 4 times. Can't say I did terrible.
1. Talulah Gosh
2. My Boy Says
3. I Can't Get No Satisfaction (Thank God)
4. Steaming Train [My tambourine song, I fucked up my hand from playing too hard]
Denise threw an arm around me and told me that I had to be in a band. T.C. gave me a hug. Heather and Matt skipped out on a show in SF just to watch us play. How nice of all of them. Hopefully there will be some picture links soon. We tried to enjoy ourselves at the Rock*A*Teens / Ski Instructors / Cave-ins show later after that. It was all okay. I was super tired, and didn't feel like drinking. I really hope that I didn't look snobby sitting back in the corner talking, instead of watching the first two bands.
Saturday. We did a bunch of chores, then I made a savory potato-mushroom with apple soup for Heather and Leon. We ended up making gross hippie cookies, and playing a rad board game until I nearly passed out. Still, it was fun.
Friday. We tried to go to the bmg party, but I got car sick in Dixon and nearly threw up. I needed food right away, so we picked up T.C. and went straight to pizza. The pizza helped a little, but I could only stomach one piece. After that we went over to the Hotsy Totsy Club for a drink. Being a sport, albeit a sick one, I decided to have a drink. Mostly so I could say that I drank at the Hotsy Totsy. It was just how I expected it. Smoke filled, shady but mixed clientele, pool table, shuffle board and a jukebox. I think someone was cooking stew in the back room. The lady bartender smoked endlessly, danced and opened our beers with the cigarette hand. There was a ceramic Spuds Mackenzie statue, I dared T.C. to try and buy it, but he wouldn't do it. It must be my luck because when we left I stepped in dog shit and didn't realize it until we were a block away. I had it all over my shoe and all over poor Leon's floor mats. Worse, after I cleaned it up, we couldn't turn on the heater because it would make the smell worse. Note: I was still feeling sick at this point. We dropped T.C. off, and went home. There was a message from Matt telling us to go to Danny's and Kelly's birthday party. I wasn't tired and figured that I could be sick at home, or I could be sick at the party. Like a champ, I decided to go to the party. I sat on the couch, watched the people dance and talked to James a little bit. We later snuck out to go home and sleep. In fact, I wish I were sneaking out of work today to go sleep, it sounds nice.
