Summer Travels

Oh! I forgot to tell you. We went to Boston. It was the hottest weekend of the whole summer. These poor guys were positively melting but trying hard to keep their solid form. I don't sweat, I get dewy. Let me just say that I got extremely dewy. The heat and the humidity were of equal blame and we now have a civil case against both of them in court. I'm seeking damages of one built in swimming pool. Seriously, how colonists thought that might be a good place to settle is beyond me. I would have turned around and headed back to the old world.

It was so so hot, it really zapped Ira of most energy. He was perpetually napping or getting carried about in arms or on shoulders. Here he's having a snooze while Leon and I enjoyed the best crab cakes ever. They tasted exactly like onion ring breading! After Ira woke up here, he had some pizza, cake and borrowed our camera to take a million pictures. We were all so sweaty and he's so little, he got lots of double chin shots. I won't post any of them. You're welcome.

We did a little bit of sight seeing, but it was so dang hot out it was really tough to enjoy. Here we are at Harvard. We got Ira in on the early admissions program. They have a dental school, right? Oh, dear. These shoes don't go with this skirt and now my poor fashion choice is captured forever here on the internet.

We used Air Bnb to book our lodging. The inside was rad, but the neighborhood was a little sketch. But it's okay, we know how to live in busted up neighborhoods. Ira's favorite part of the trip was the apartment's spiral staircase. He also liked this piano and he wrote a tiny song that he remembered and played again for us at home on the keyboard.

This happy duo is why we endured the suffocating heat. Amy and Frank got married! It's cool, he likes all the right Kinks albums. Oh man, it was a fun wedding. The best part is when they brought out late night snacks: sandwiches and french fries! More wedding caterers should do french fries. You can eat them with pinkies out.

The next day, we boarded a train for Manhattan. More on that in an upcoming post.

Me: Today is your first day of kindergarten!!

Ira: Mom, I'm five today.

Me: You want to be five today, but you're still four. Hey, you can be four and still be in kindergarten. You'll be five soon.

Ira: [Eyes welling up, voice so tiny] But dad said I'd be five next time.

Me: Oh, tiny! You'll be five on your birthday, not today! You know, around Halloween time! When we see pumpkins in the grocery stores.

Ira: WAHHHHH!!!! I am five!!

This kid so very badly wants to be five, with all of the might of his precious heart. He sometimes gets so insistent that he is five and the conversations usually go like this. It just breaks my heart. Soon enough, kid.
