Razzle Dazzle

Somehow the post I was working on vanished. Anyway. Saw the New Pornographers last night at Bimbo's. This was the second time I've seen them. Loved A.C. Newman, still not so hot on Neko Case. Sorry, man! Just can't like her. She's too razzle dazzle for me. They were hilarious and totally tight. Driving home though was rough. I got so tired right around Pinole and struggled to stay awake all the way to Wessac. Once we got there, we decided to play a "guess the song first" game with the scan button on the radio. Worked like a charm and I was wide awake for the last 4 miles home. We came home and passed rightly out into dreamless sleep.

Whole lotta A

I'm beginning a small project. Photographing the most charming A's of Sacramento. You'll find the first few at my flickr. Fun fun weekend. As always, scavenger hunt ruled. We won. We're awesome.
Let's see, what else?
- I was a puppet extra in a movie.
- I drank some beers.
- I talked some boo-boo.
- I got some sad news, but remain hopeful.
- I sit and worry and worry about lots of things but can't say a damn thing about any of it.

Horrible
This morning was off to a gruesome start. First, I stopped to fill my tank. $29.00. Wait, it gets worse. Then I started craving graham crackers. So I drove over to metal horse Safeway...or at least I tried to. The entire block between Q and S was completely taped off by police. That whole stretch? Yep. So I went around the block and pulled in to Safeway from S st. As I drove through the intersection at 19th, all I could see was a Volvo and broken glass. When I parked and got out of the car, I asked the security guard why the whole block was blocked off for just an accident. These guys know things, right? I could barely understand him but he said:
SG: Somebody got hit, a lady....30 years old, caucasian. The guy took off!
Me: Someone got hit in their car or their body got hit?
SG: She was trapped under the car. He kept going.
Me: Oh my gosh!!

So I kept checking the Bee to see if they'd cover it because the accident wasn't too far from their offices. Finally right around lunch they posted the article. Man, I hope they catch that guy. I started checking craigslist to see if anyone had seen what happened and wrote about it. You know how it is these days with the bloggers and the writing. So instant. But the only postings there were just saying how sad it was and another person saying that downtown was basically dangerous. Whatever man! I know I'd feel way more scared of getting hit by cars walking up Sunrise or Laguna Blvd, than down 19th street in Midtown! That's just me.

Check out who's hanging out over at flickrdogs. Yep, it's little Riblets in the bee costume. This dog, I swear. Last night she said "Woof. Bark. Grunt." I think this means "Let's play tug. Then after that I want some more of that savory liver biscotti. And when I wake up tomorrow, I would like you to turn on my heater before I get out of bed." What a queen!

Sacramento's Most Blogged Dog will be making an appearance soon on Beedogs.com.

See?

I went home for lunch and couldn't resist. I had to put the costume on.
You all look fabulous

But my photo taking was horrible. I blame the dark. This camera sucks at low lights. I couldn't frame some of these party pics right because there wasn't much light to see in. Makes me miss my slr. Anyway, more at my flickr. The housewarming party was so, so fun. Such a cute place.

Is there anything cuter than a dog dressed in a bee costume? Not to me anyway.

I know this much is Tru

There are two movies about Truman Capote coming out. One, called Capote starring Phillip Seymour Hoffman and the other called Have You Heard, starring Toby Jones (who?). I'm super excited about both. I went through a major Tru phase right out of high school. I was really fascinated by his confidant and insider status within high society. I also fell in love with Holly Golightly so much that I wanted to be her.

Capote comes out at the end of this month and seems to be based more on his In Cold Blood years. Have You Heard comes out next year sometime and will be based more on the oral biography by George Plimpton, which could be a painfully unflattering portrait.

Burger me

Right now my favorite burgers are these veggie-disc things from Trader Joe's (not what's pictured, but similar) in "california" flavor. Man, these things are the closest burgers to this one that I had in a Swedish Burger King. If I had Japanese stationary to perfectly match this feeling, it would say:
"Enjoy a burger to remember happy time. That is our wishness."

It was late July 2004. F.men hand been on the road for a while and ended up in Sweden to drink warm beer, hang out with Mr. Show and be exotic amongst 400 drunk young Swedes. We got to the train station, on the way to destination: Swedishes. We were tired, we were hungry. Some of us needed a bath. We couldn't figure out what our money was worth, having to calculate American dollars into Brittish pounds then into Swedish kronors. To us it seemed like play money. Hardly anyone was speaking english and I was feeling more alienated, lost and so far from home. I was feeling worse than my last day of honeymoon in the Mexico City airport when I was so exhausted from speaking the language, I reverted to a bad spanglish. "I don't know cual sala I'm supposed to be in. Donde esta por el vuelo 78?" Except here in Sweden I couldn't speak the language and couldn't even approximate what any of the signs said because they were not in a latin based language. I saw a Burger King and went for it. It was a tiny bit of comfort in a weary day. I totally hated being the American that goes for an American fast food chain while abroad, but the burger was so good though! It wasn't like a lame garden burger where the only vegetable you can see is the rice. There were whole kidney beans and peas in this thing. I loved it. You can't find the same thing in American Burger Kings, but you can get close to it with these jammies from Trader Joe's.

Yuck

This dog looks cute and innocent, but trust me. Sacramento's Most Blogged Dog is one foul beast.

Okay so for some reason, I forgot to bring my camera with me Saturday night and I totally regret it. The show at Ye Olde Puppet Towne (or whatev), was some serious fun. So was following around the busking dudes and Alice. Thank goodness Chris took some great photos. Chris, sorry if I got mint lip gloss all over your trombone mouthpiece.

Me: "Oh man! That would be a great name for a drink! I've got it. Simple syrup infused with lime juice and fresh ginger, club soda and frosty cold vodka all over ice."

It was like magic! As if the spirit of Mr. Boston shone on me with divine neon light. And here, I've forgotten the name which was the whole inspiration for this. Sigh. Anyone from our table for pizza monday last week remember what the name was?

Iggy

I saw Iggy & "The Stooges" Monday night. What can I say about this show? It was entertaining? It was. It was kind of weird? It was! Someone told me that everyone backstage was given explicit instructions to not look Iggy in the eye. This picture was taken after he invited about 60 people on stage to dance.

I must give a shout out

to my one and only Bracky jo on her birthday today. She showed me about taking pictures, cheeba, my first Sub Pop record (Velocity Girl, or Eric's Trip?) and the comfort of having a friend that just gets you.
I must have been a mouse in another life

...because I enjoy nothing more than cheese, cheese, cheese. Here's a portrait of one of the most special grilled cheeses I've ever known. Made with Beecher's handmade Flagship cheese: buttery yellow, sharp, creamy and cheddary. It melted beautifully. Oh, the cheeses I have known and loved! There was no other like Flagship cheese.

Totally safe-for-work hot grilled cheese pics.

Niki and Lemony
Originally uploaded by bugbiteme.

Just back from Seattle last night. Too busy at work to catch up fully, but here are some quick stats for my labor day weekend.

Snickets met: one, Lemony.
Armless men seen: at least two different ones.
Kilt-wearing dudes seen: 7-8 total.
Storms caught in: one huge one.
Rental cars towed: one, mine.
Hours it took to drive one mile from Seattle Center to I-5 South: 1 HOUR!
Schmancy meals eaten: two, but one was at an all veggie place that I'm forced to review after eating there only once because I may not make it back for the prerequisite 2-4 visits before I can make a fair opinion.

and more later, probably.

Emerald City

Going to Seattle for a few days. Mostly work (going to shows), meetings (being taken out to restaurants) and all kinds of schmoozing (free booze). Meanwhile, it seems I'm missing out on a bunch of fun things going on here in town. Oh well, those are the breaks. So Seattle, here I come. Land of paid parking lots, lots of seafood restaurants, smoking everywhere, Sir Mixx-A-Lot, Peroshkis on Broadway, chichis at the Cha Cha Lounge and don't forget Dick's drive-in, where they charge you 25 cents for ketchup. Why? Because they're Dick's.
