Crosstitch & Needlepoint.

I finally am checking out all the hoopla about Joanna Newsom. I have heard some songs here and there and decided to get the CD and really give a listen. I think I can finally describe this music in a few words.

Minimalist indie ballads played on a weird harp, sung by Shirley Temple and Harriet Wheeler's lovechild.

There. Phew!

Making mustard.

First things first. La Fiesta Taqueria is now open on Alhambra and L St, taking the place of the very lame and unfocused Alhambra Grill, which was neither very grill like and not at all like an old theatre. Now midtowners can get very decent burritos without driving to Fair Oaks, South Sac or even the most holiest of Northern California burrito meccas: the Mission district of San Francisco. La Favorita Taqueria, whose owners also run La Fiesta, still have the best, most bestest burrito in town. End of story.

Second things next. If you see me reaching for an extra helping of stuffing at thanksgiving dinner, it's okay. I'm expecting a puppy! That's right. On Saturday after some really boring yard work, we took a very boring ride to the Capital of Boring, Modesto to look at some very exciting and excited dogs.

Dear Grandaddy (because I don't know anyone else from Modesto and I met Jason once),

Please do something about the weekend traffic in Modesto. It's just too heavy and people drive too crazy/slow/fast. I can only stand to come back 2 more times for this dog I'm getting and probably some Sonic Burger 99c grilled cheeses but after that, me and Modesto are history.

So the puppies couldn't be any cuter unless they blooming out of sunflower blossoms like Anne Geddes photographs. Even their dijon colored poop was adorable. We're getting one in 3 weeks. Until then, it's a feverish cram session on puppies 101 in which required reading includes:
Puppies For Dummies
Before & After You Get Your Puppy
The Other Side Of The Leash
The Official Boston Terrier Book or some crap.

I'm probably fine.

I still have some swollen lymph nodes. Actually, a bunch of them...all over. I went for more blood testing today to see if we can find out why I have them. While walking over to the lab, I read over the sheet they sent me with, that tells the lab what to sceen for. Maybe I shouldn't have looked because now I'm all freaked out. You don't even want to know what I'm being tested for. I do love my doctor though, she says "maybe it's nothing. You're so thin (I weigh 129 pounds), they just poke through."

In other news: Zocalo is my new favorite fancy restaurant. They give 3 salsas to dip your chips in, heaps of cilantro-lime rice and very non-soupy black beans with almost every meal. They also have these cheese enchiladas that claim to be made with Oaxacan cheese, but it really tastes more like a queso fresco. Really good anyway though and even better if someone else pays.

Wasted Beargeoises

Yesterday I had a "oh! I should put that on my blog" moment, but Blogger took too long to log me in and I ended up forgetting it. So now I'll write about halloween.

I went to a party Friday night at Stoney Bros. House. I had no time all week to even think about a costume, being too busy at work. Staying late until 7 or 8, the last thing I needed to do was end up a t Party City or Spirit with all kinds of screaming brats and Exotic Zone Ball weirdos, so luckily, I knew where my high school mascot costume was. I altered a little bit to become less maverick-like and more bear-like. I hated it. So I put on sunglasses and became a bear....on holiday! The bear got into some beer, chatted with all kinds of characters and apparently charmed some couple friends of ours and got an email later from them saying how nice it was hanging out with us and how we should all hang out soon. I barely remember talking to these people. At least I didn't make a fool of myself, as far as I can tell.

I sobered up quickly though with some food and lots of water at home.

From hell.

I have one of the biggest pimples that I've ever had in my life. What, you didn't notice? It's right here in the crease of my nose. Hello?! I might as well call it Tiny, Jr. It has it's own heart beat and it's in my line of sight, so I can't even see my feet anymore. I tried to pop it on Sunday, but ended up making it worse. If you need me, I'll be laying on the couch applying hot compresses to it.

I am 27. Wait, yeah...I'm 27. This should not be happening to me anymore. Where's my water?
