THIS WILL BE MINE

Oh, chelada!
Originally uploaded by riblet.

Next week, it's going to be all about this. Indeed.

But because I'm wired to worry, I'm bundle of nerves as we get ready for our trip. My biggest worry is that I won't be able to just relax and that I'll come back feeling like I never got to rest.

This is where the above pictured chelada comes in. So much pressure on you, dude. Don't fail me!

I need to learn more bread recipes that don't take two days to make. I go to the foccacia recipe in Vegetarian Cooking for Everyone (Debora Madison) all the time because the bread can be made in about 2 hours and it tastes freaking awesome.

By the way, this photo is from my new camera lens. It's amazing for close up pictures of food. LOVE.

Do over

Mom

I was too depressed to enjoy my Mother's Day hike and I had a late-afternoon total emotional freak-out. Then, I found a tick on my back.

I didn't have the greatest Mother's Day. Can I have a do over?

In the do over I want to sleep in, drink coffee and eat breakfast on the back deck, go for a bike ride and have an early dinner. Pizza. Yeah, pizza sounds great.

I tried Fog Mountain Cafe at lunch today. Man, I love working downtown. Maybe I love the being downtown more than the working part, but don't we all.

Anyway, this place was getting good reviews on Yelp, with reviewers practically CONVULSING over it. I ate there today and I had this gooey grilled cheese sandwich, served with a tangy balsamic dipping sauce. Yum.

I also managed to use my lunch break to return my library books...BEFORE THEY WERE DUE. I know, I know. Hold your applause. I was just so thrilled to actually finish them, that returning them on time was like getting to the bottom of an ice cream cone only to find a diamond ring.

It's the little things.

One man band

Mornings in our house can be haarrrd and haarrsh. Just getting Ira to eat breakfast can produce monumental trantrums. If I happen to make waffles when he wanted french toast, he'll cry and whine about it for 10 minutes. I am not joking. Stop by sometime at 6:30 a.m. and you'll see. If I can even get clean clothes on him, it's a miracle (take that ICP!). Mornings with a 3 year old firecracker is not easy, but sometimes really cool things happen. These are some of them:

1. Sleepy, clingy, monkey-hugs.

2. Breakfast cuddles. He eats while sitting on my lap. It's sweet, quiet time.

3. Impromptu dance parties. This morning he requested and lip-synched along to "Green Light" by the Equals. Then we danced to "Green Onions" by Booker T. and the MGs.

Oh, kid. You're cooler than you even know.

Leggings watch: I am NOT wearing leggins today.

Lately I try to remember that 9 out of 10 dead people don't give a shit about their survived ones moping around. The 10th one, well, they were never happy anyway.
