Makin' some things

Yo Gabba Gabba plushie

The other day I got the sewing machine out and made some things. First, I made Ira this Yo Gabba Gabba plushie. What? You haven't see this show yet? You don't have to have kids, it's pretty awesome. Who else but Hollywood hipster types can teach kids about how to act proper in a mosh pit?

Then I made a sunglasses case. Mine always get scratched up, so I made a little bag with a draw string.

Then Leon requested a heating pad. So I sewed up a real manly flax seed pillow. It goes in the microwave (oh shut up, you get more radiation exposure from eating microwaved leftovers) for three minutes. So warm!

OMG! Am I glad I watched Lost last night. There is so much about the season 3 finale that I forgot. I must admit that I got a little misty-eyed when poor Charlie met his fate.

Sad boston

I don't always agree with the Dog Whisperer. He uses too much force at times. But I do agree that certain behaviors are innate in some breeds and sometimes therapy has to be based on those. Like when he takes a neurotic border collie to a sheep ranch and lets the dog go crazy herding animals for a couple of hours. Or when he puts a heavy backpack on a rotty. The dogs seem so re-centered and calm afterwards.

Lately Heylove has been acting kind of weird/depressed. She stands outside and looks in through our back door, shivering. It's so sad! I know she wants to come in and be warm, but Ira makes her nervous. I always call her in and try to get her to hang out with me during his naps. Sometimes she's into it, and sometimes not. Other times, I put a sweater on her and let her go back outside. At least that way she'll keep warm. I wonder what the Dog Whisperer would make Heylove do? Her breed was not meant to do anything specific other than be a nice companion dog. If Heylove could talk, she would tell us that she was born to lick faces and play tug. I sensed this, and after breakfast today I called her in and surprised her with a nice game of tug. She really livened up! She and I felt a lot better afterwards. Heylove got to play her favorite game and I felt like a better dog mom for being a little more interactive. I have my hands full with Ira and housework all day that poor Heylove gets lost in my list of priorities. Poor girl. We need a dog nanny!

I made a new recipe

I made a new recipe

I think this might be a new regular meal for us. The other night I sauteed up some onions, green peppers and soyrizo until the soyrizo had about half the moisture cooked out of it and it started to look a little like hamburger meat. Meanwhile, in the oven I had sweet potato spears tossed with soy sauce, olive oil and black pepper roasting at a toasty 450 degrees for about 20 minutes. I also had some leftover quinoa from this week. When all was cooked up, I spooned the soyrizo mixture on top of the quinoa, threw some sweet potatoes on there and then topped it all with some toasted pumpkin seeds. It was incredibly delicious!

I love this photo

I don't know if Leon or I took this one, but I hope it was me. Ravegasm 2007 was so awesome that I can't even put it into words. This picture pretty much says it all.

Whoa, what a storm Friday, right? Nothing bad happened to our house, but it's probably a good idea that we start thinking about getting a new roof pretty soon. I'm just so glad none of our trees fell over.

Ira is doing pretty good. I'm perpetually obsessing about what he eats and I'm feeling really bummed out that he's not taking to eggs very well. We've tried to feed him scrambled eggs a number of times (with and without ketchup) now and he just won't take them. Same goes with cow's milk. I've had to stop buying the fancy, glass bottle organic whole milk because it's too expensive to pour it for him only to have to give it to the cats after an hour because he won't drink it. Now we just get the cheap, skinny cartons of vitamin D milk. Our cats and Heylove are stoked on all the eggs and saucers of milk they're getting though. Shiny coats all around! I'm going to have to get much sneakier on getting Ira his eggs and milk. I'm going to have my dad teach me how to make an expert cheese omelet. And if that doesn't work, I'm taking aim for the sweet tooth and reverting to french toast.

Last night I got a much needed night out with a bunch of other moms. Leaving our kids with their dads, we went to Tres Hermanas, ate and shared a couple of pitchers of margaritas. It was so fun to be without kids, catching glimpses of whom each mom really was. You just don't get that on the playground. With one eye on your toddler, it's hard to maintain an adult conversation, something I sorely miss! I am glad that many of my friends don't have kids and that our conversations don't always dissolve into diaper talk.

OK, back to my bon-bons and "stories."
