Showing

We saw the Yellow Submarine at the Kabinet last night. It was nice, barely any one was there, but a couple guys and two incredibly cute kids. We should make it to more of these. So after watching this movie for maybe the 3rd time now, it strikes me as kind of a scary movie for a kid to see. Since I'd never seen it as a kid, I can only imagine 7 year old me freaking out over the blue meanies. I guess I was pretty sensitive. The Wiz used to scare the crap out of me and Puff the Magic Dragon used to make me cry, damn that heartless Jackie Paper!

Finally, I am starting to look pregnant and not beer bellied. Two people yesterday recognized my paunch as a critter in the making instead of slumpiness. So far I've been really worried about strangers seeng me and thinking "she might be cute if she just took care of herself." Looks like I'm starting to get out of that grey area. Phew.

Maybe it's the increase in lady hormones, but I've been feeling rather feminine lately. Kind of weird for me, I have to admit I've even been a little more into make up. I even fell sucker to an infomercial about this bare minerals make up. So I made my sister-in-law guide me on a make up safari in Roseville. Like a champ, she total guinea pigged the make up demos for me before I sat in the chair to get my own. I ended up liking what they did a lot. The coverage was good, but really light weight and all powder based (I can't stand liquid make ups). The best part was that my under eye circles vanished. The only problem is the starter kit is mega expensive.

Hearts

I saw the doctor this morning for my periodic 4 week check up. She assured me that I'm not going to die of ligament pain and that relief will come...eventually. She also said that I'm gaining weight at a normal rate, which was reassuring. I thought I wasn't gaining enough and was preparing to get a finger wagging for my vegetarian diet. Then I got to hear the heart beat (160 bpm) and got some blood work done. We will find out if it's a Neon or a Neonette on June 20. Find a bookie and place your bets.
Mom, I'm in love with a cheese!

When I went to Seattle the last couple of times, I visited Beecher's Handmade Cheeses there over by the fish thrower guys. They have an amazing flagship cheese. It's an aged semi-hard cheese, sharp tasting with a smooth undertone and the texture, while slicable by a cheese plane, is pretty crumbly. It melts beautifully for grilled cheese. So I had been missing that cheese so bad I almost ordered it online from the source on a couple of occasions. Come to find out (thanks sabs) that Nugget carries it! So I went to Nugget one lunch break and totally geeked out about it like a cheese groupie with the market's cheesemonger. But at $16.99 per pound, I can't afford it too often. Then I found it at the co-op for $13.99 per pound! Cheaper by a little, it's still kind of pricey. So all this time, right under my nose Flagship! How could you hide from me like that? I'm halfway through my second block of it right now.

17 weeks

Here's this week's profile shot. And a Flickr stroll through all kinds of other bellies at 17 weeks.

Last night we went to an NBAT (Newton-Booth Alhambra Triangle) neighborhood association meeting regarding the ongoing saga of the new condos going up on S street & Alhambra where the state buildings are. Developers are pitching a huge 278 unit "condo" community and we're pushing back on several aspects of their proposal by drafting a letter to the developer and City before it goes any further. Now, I say "condo" because 700 sqft doesn't really sound like the ideal owner-occupied dwelling. It sounds more like an apartment. But don't get me wrong, we're not against additional housing in our neighborhood, but it has to be done right and in accordance with the City's rules and regs. The way it stands right now, there are just too many units, not enough parking, the potential for traffic congestion problems and the poor people that live on S street now between 34th and Alhambra will have to deal with 400+ noisy new neighbors.
